Description

A Storied Past & Thoughtful Restoration

Casa Alfaro was originally constructed in the early 1700s and named for its famous 18th-century resident, Padre Luis Felipe Neri de Alfaro, who commissioned the nearby Santuario de Atotonilco—a UNESCO World Heritage Site often called the Sistine Chapel of the West. From the home’s many terraces, guests can admire this architectural masterpiece, a landmark of Mexico’s rich cultural heritage. The Estate & Its Design Casa Alfaro has been meticulously restored and modernized over the past four years, with every detail celebrating the artistry, traditional methods, materials, and craftsmanship of the region. The home features: • Eight elegant bedrooms, each with a private en-suite bath • 12 fireplaces, both gas and wood-burning, throughout the estate • A striking all-Talavera tiled swimming pool and jacuzzi • Handcrafted details, including hand-painted tiles from Dolores Hidalgo, intricately carved cantera stone fireplaces, and dramatic boveda brick ceilings • Custom-designed stained glass windows and artisan fixtures • A curated art collection, showcasing works from San Miguel artists, historic religious art, and antiques sourced from Mexico City auction houses • Many original elements have been carefully preserved, including historic horse troughs, now beautifully repurposed in the dining room and El Principal’s private patio • Reverse osmosis and water filtration system providing drinkable water throughout the estate. The Bedrooms

Each of Casa Alfaro’s eight uniquely designed bedrooms offers comfort, charm, and a connection to the casa’s rich history:

• Josefina – Upon entering the courtyard, this bedroom is immediately to the right. It has two antique twin beds (convertible to a King), a wood-burning fireplace, and an en-suite bath with stained glass windows, double vanity, and fully tiled shower.

• Recámara Jardín – Adjacent to Josefina, this bedroom features a King bed, gas fireplace, and an en-suite bath with a separate shower, hammered brass tub, stained glass windows, and double vanity. French doors open to the Portal.

The Portal is a spacious outdoor loggia with doors leading to a large and welcoming living room, or Sala, featuring a stunning bóveda brick ceiling and cupola, a gas fireplace, smart TV, a nearby powder room, and a kitchenette with a minifridge, coffee maker, and sink.

• El Principal – Near the Sala, this spacious King suite features an en-suite bath with a floating cantera stone double vanity and shower, plus a private outdoor patio with a fireplace, fishpond fountain, outdoor shower, and a cantera-and-tile bathtub.

• Los Pájaros – Also off the Sala, this charming, spacious suite has two Queen beds, a gas fireplace, and an en-suite bath with a large shower/bath combination.

• La Reina – Next to Los Pájaros, this cozy Queen suite features a gas fireplace and an en-suite bath with a walk-in shower. On the second floor, which can be reached by both interior and exterior stairways, you will find two large and private bedrooms: the Torré and the Juanita.

• La Torré – This stunning King suite includes a gas fireplace, private balcony, and access to the rooftop terrace. The en-suite bath features a shower and cantera-carved sink.

• Juanita – Just down the pasillo from La Torré, the Juanita is a spacious King suite offering breathtaking views, a gas fireplace, and a luxurious en-suite bath with a separate tub, walk-in shower, and double vanity.

• Alfaro – Located in the historic wing, this lovely King suite features a wood-burning fireplace and an en-suite bath, and is situated near the library, bar, historic living room, kitchen, and dining room.

An Unforgettable Escape With its rich history, exquisite craftsmanship, and unparalleled beauty, Casa Alfaro is more than a home—it is an experience. Whether savoring a chef-prepared meal in the courtyard, admiring El Santuario from a rooftop terrace, or simply soaking in the tranquility of the countryside, this extraordinary place offers an unforgettable escape in the heart of Mexico.
